What makes a measurement bug report useful
A ruler that reads wrong is the report worth having, and five details turn it from a puzzle into a fix: your browser and its version, your operating system, the display you were using and its resolution and scaling setting, the exact line the readout was printing — it always names its own state — and which object, edge and orientation you matched. If the tool refused something, the message it printed is the useful part, because a refusal here always names what it refused and why.
The most valuable report of all is a disagreement with a physical ruler: what the screen said, what a real ruler said, and over what distance. That is a number this site can check its own arithmetic against.
Corrections to the numbers are wanted
Every dimensional figure on this site is published with the clause it came from, the arithmetic that turned millimetres into a percentage, and its sources, precisely so that it can be checked by someone who is not us. If a tolerance is misread, a band is derived wrongly, or a source no longer says what it is quoted as saying, that is a defect and it will be treated as one. A page that gets something wrong should be corrected rather than defended, and understating an error band is the failure taken most seriously here.
Requests are welcome too — a reference object you would rather use, a length or unit that is missing, a page that assumes a screen you do not have. A new reference object needs its dimensional tolerance to exist in a published source before it can be offered, so the most useful version of that request is one that names the source.
Two things nobody here can look up
Your calibration. It lives in your own browser's storage on your own device, and there is no copy anywhere else — no account, no database, no server of ours that ever received it. If it is gone, the fix is twenty seconds with a card rather than a support request, and that is the same property that keeps it out of everyone else's reach as well.
Your screen's real density. There is no lookup that can supply it. Nothing in a browser reports the physical size of a display, and the tables that claim to map a device to a density are wrong in exactly the cases that matter — see the methodology page for why that route was rejected rather than merely skipped. What can be answered is what your own measurement implies, if you send the numbers.
Please do not email photographs of your card
Nothing on this site ever sees the object you calibrate with, and there is no reason for that to change in an inbox: there is no image upload anywhere on the site, no camera access, and no step that would benefit from a picture. Describe the card instead — a bank card, ID card or driving licence is one standardised object and the description is enough. If you email us, the address is used only to reply and is not added to any list; the privacy policy covers the rest.
